Trenitalia decided to expand its bus fleet to provide better service to its users, covering a greater number of routes. To remain competitive and up-to-date, it needed an online sales system that would allow easy and direct ticket purchases, as competitors in the sector already do. This new system was designed to improve accessibility and convenience for travelers, ensuring a modern and integrated shopping experience.
We utilized Shopware as the commerce engine. For the headless website, a technology that allows SSR for SEO optimization was chosen: Nuxt. Our partner Sintra developed the back-end for integration with the Busitalia systems that manage routes, prices, and schedules. Sintra also developed a native app for on-board controllers, enabling ticket sales and validation.
A headless solution allowed us to integrate multiple data sources to create a tailored portal. We use BusItalia's APIs to obtain real-time information on routes, schedules, and prices, and Shopware's APIs to manage products and sales. We also integrated another set of APIs to manage the entire CMS content section. For the UI/UX, we used Trenitalia's design system to ensure a consistent experience with the other services offered.
